In the UK we have some fantastic designers and craftspeople
We love living in a globalised world and we champion the use of trade to help people out of poverty, but we also think it’s important to recognise skills and talents closer to home.
Here in the UK, we have some fantastic designers and craftspeople and we want to help support them as well as their local communities.
By buying locally, there’s the added bonus of not needing to ship and fly things around the world. So, it’s good for people and good for the planet. Now, that’s what we call a step in a sustainable direction.
England once had a thriving textile and manufacturing industry. Oldham, in the north of the country, apparently had more spindles than the rest of the world put together. Sadly, by the 1960s English mills were closing at the rate of one a week. We’d love to see those spindles back in action!
We’re constantly on the look out for locally-produced goods that we think you’ll love to add to our collection. (Some are being tried and tested as we speak) But, if you know of a must-have label, let us know!
